NMMU / Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University had hoped to resume all operations and academic schedule by Monday but have subsequently released the following statement via their website:
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) had decided to resume operations today (Friday 7 October), with classes starting on Monday (10 October).
Unfortunately, the situation on our North and South campuses became volatile today. As a result, we are reluctant to immediately go ahead with the resumption of classes given our concerns for the safety of staff and students. Therefore, the University will remain closed on Monday.
NMMU will continue to follow all legitimate avenues at its disposal to resolve the present situation. We sincerely apologise for this. Further communication regarding the way forward will follow.
