SOUTH AFRICA - GOOD LUCK TO ALL MATRICULANTS ACROSS SA WHO HAVE JUST BEGUN WRITING THEIR FINAL EXAMS

Thousands of matriculants across the country have begun their 2016 final exams.

More than 8,000 candidates will write Computer Applications Technology on Wednesday.

A total of more than 600, 000 students will be participating in the National Senior Certificate exams countrywide this year.

The Basic Education Department said it has been working hard to ensure the smooth running of the examinations.

The department advised the class of 2016 to focus on their final exams rather than what would happen after them.

The addition of this years matriculants to institutions of higher learning at which university fees protests continue,  threatening to create a backlog next year if the academic year is lost or students' performance is affected by the disruptions.

“Our advice to matriculants is for them to focus on their studies because you need to have passed matric and obtained good marks in order to explore opportunities at institutions of higher learning,” said Basic Education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.

“We hope that we will not experience any disruptions during exam time because that will really be unfortunate.

“Our assessment is that things are going to go well. We don’t anticipate that the protests will spill over onto our schools.

The department wished those who are writing the best of luck.
