PORT ELIZABETH - DUSTLIFES AND NEW KIDS GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED IN PE COURT


11 November : Gang affiliates Jody Williams alias Viskop(23) and Jason Jacobs alias Jampak ( 27) will not see beyond prison walls for a very long time. Williams and Jacobs were sentenced today in the Port Elizabeth High court on a charge of murder – life imprisonment ,attempted murder (x 6) – total no. of years 36, illegal possession of a firearm- 8 years and illegal possession of ammunition – 5 years . None of the sentences will run concurrently. Effectively they will serve life plus 49 years in imprisonment. Application for appeal was denied.

Williams was arrested in August 2015 by the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit while Jacobs was arrested near his home in Sanctor, Bethelsdorp on 15 January 2016 by SAPS Bethelsdorp members.
On 17 July 2015 at about 20:15 a group of people were standing at a fire in the driveway of a house in Catherine Street, Salsoneville. The two accused approached the group and started shooting at them. Denise Rollison (28 years) was fatally wounded in her head. Two other people were also struck in the face and leg respectively.

Both accused are affiliated to the Dustlifes.

Also sentenced today, in the Port Elizabeth Regional court was New Kids gang member, Luciano Prins (20) for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. He was sentenced to an effective 9 years imprisonment. In February 2016, Prins was walking in Burt Street in Bloemendal and randomly shot at people. He was arrested at a house in Bloemendal in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The case was also investigated by the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit.

This is the third sentencing in two weeks of gang members committing crimes in the Northern areas. On 2 November 2016, Charlton Jackson(27) was sentenced to an effective 12 years imprisonment while Fabian Bowers(36) was sentenced to an effective 25 years imprisonment on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

The Cluster Commander for Mount Road Cluster, Major General Dawie Rabie commended the investigating officers D/Capt Chris Rowan , D/Sgt Conrad Goosen, D/W/O Gouws and the prosecuting authority for successful prosecutions today. He added that "the sentencing was as a result of an inter-grated approach by the different units within the criminal justice system. It is with pride that we see our members work extremely hard to remove criminals from our streets and to ensure safety of our citizens. The sentences imposed brings justice to the victims and their families.
