PORT ELIZABETH - GANG UNIT ARRESTS 4 WANTED SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN SHOOTINGS IN MALABAR AND GELVANDALE

In less than 24 hours, the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit arrested four suspects allegedly involved in separate shooting incidents in Malabar and Gelvandale.

On 7 November 2016 at about 11:10, a shooting took place in Closemore Cres Ext 6 Malabar. No injuries were sustained however five suspects approached three victims and one shot was fired.  One suspect, aged 22 years was arrested immediately after the incident by the Provincial Gang Investigation unit.

While investigators were still busy with the crime scene in Closemore Cres, they spotted two suspects wanted in another attempted murder case. The suspects were seen walking in Closemore Cres, not far from the current crime scene. With the assistance of the K9 unit, 2 suspects aged 22 and 24 years old were arrested. These suspects are wanted for a previous attempted murder which took place on 6 November 2016. It is alleged at about 21:30, the victim,24 years was standing in Goliath Street in Gelvandale when the suspects who were driving in a vehicle started firing at the victim and his friend. The complainant was struck on his right leg while his friend did not sustain any injuries.

On Tuesday, 8 November 2016, a 31 year old man was arrested at his house in Ext 6 Malabar for the alleged shooting at a group of people sitting in a yard in Closemore Crescent Ext 6 Malabar. It is alleged that on Monday, 7 November 2016 at about 16:00, the suspects (2) were shooting at the group from the street.  A 57 year old woman was shot in her right foot while a 17 year old was shot in his right leg. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder(x2).

The Cluster Commander for Mount Road Cluster, Maj Gen Dawie Rabie stated ,’the speed in which these arrests have been executed is applauded and we send out a warning to the criminals that we will not rest until those responsible for these  callous shootings are arrested and are behind prison walls. We urge communities to work with the police and to report criminal elements that are instilling fear among the law abiding citizens.’
