Members of the Crime Combatting Unit, Visible Gang Intervention Team (VGIT) and SAPS Bethelsdorp members made significant arrests last night in the Bethelsdorp, Gelvandale and Humewood policing precincts.
Successes are as follows :
Arrests : 13 (8- drug related cases, 3- illegal possession of firearms , 1- illegal possession of ammunition, 1- robbery).
Confiscations:
3 firearms , 1x toy gun, 12 knives, 2x 9mm rounds, 1x Siyaya Minibus (hijacked), tik, dagga, mandrax tablets.
On Thursday, 17 November 2016 at about 22:55, members were patrolling in Bethelsdorp when they noticed two suspicious looking men and when they approached them, they started to run. Members gave chase and arrested one suspect at a house in Maluti Street. The suspect pointed a firearm at the police. He was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a fiream, illegal possession of ammunition and Pointing of a firearm.
In a separate incident on the same day at about 17:50, members were patrolling in Bethelsdorp when they noticed two suspicious person at the corners of Lawrence Erasmus and William Slammert Drive in Bloemendal. Upon searching them, members have found two firearms and ammunition in their possession. They were arrested and detained for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammuntion.
Meanwhile on the same day at about 17:30 members stopped a suspicious looking male in Coral Street, Booysens Park and upon searching him the members found in his possession, 2x 9mm ammunition. He was arrested and detained.
On 17 November 2016 members also recovered a hijacked vehicle, a Siyaya bus which was found abandoned in Neave Stree, Port Elizabeth. The dangerous weapons, knives and a toy gun was confiscated during stop and search operations that were conducted in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth, Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp policing precincts.
