PORT ELIZABETH - HEATED DEBATE EXPECTED AT PE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MEETING

Tensions could reach boiling point at a special Municipal Council meeting in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

DA Mayor Athol Trollip is expected to push through the appointment of City Manager, Johan Mettler.

But the Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance MEC, Fikile Xasa, hasn’t approved Mettler's appointment, saying the post must be re-advertised.

Deputy mayor Mongameli Bohani from the UDM wants Trollip to respect the MEC’s decision.

He’s also previously accused Trollip of disregarding municipal legislation.
