Several crime prevention operations were conducted over the past weekend that resulted in the arrest of a total of 181 suspects for various crimes in the Uitenhage Cluster. These arrests included murder, armed robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, rape, theft, theft out of motor vehicle, housebreaking and theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods. Four (4) persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor over the past weekend.
A total of 22 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R11 000. The suspects were also arrested on charges relating to malicious damage to property, contravention of a protection order and 28 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs.
During an integrated roadblock that was conducted on Friday, 10 March 2017, a total of 127 vehicles were stopped and searched and six traffic fines valued at R2500-00 were issued.
On Sunday, 12 March 2017 members from Uitenhage Visible police confiscated 131 bundles of Khat and two suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of Khat. The confiscated Khat was estimated to be worth R4 500. The two men, aged 35 and 40, were arrested and will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court today, Monday, 13 March 2017 on charges of illegal possession of Khat.
Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster. The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
