EASTERN CAPE - MAN GETS 20 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR DRAGGING 8 YEAR OLD INTO THE BUSHES AND RAPING HER

Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced an 18-year-old man David Mzayifani to undergo twenty (20) years imprisonment for raping an 8-year-old toddler. The accused was sentenced on Monday,15 April 2019 at Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that the victim was coming from school on the 7th September 2016 at about 13:00, when she came across the accused at Sinqumeni Locality, Nyakatha Village, Dutywa. The accused dragged the victim to the bushes where he raped her.

The victim identified the accused as they are from the same village.

A case of rape was registered at Dutywa Police Station and was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigation. The accused was traced and arrested.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu has welcomed the hefty sentence imposed on the accused person. He vowed that crimes against women and children will always remain as the priority of the Butterworth SAPS Cluster.
