Police arrested two suspects and recovered a getaway vehicle after a woman was shot through the bedroom door of her home during a house robbery in KwaNobuhle last night.
On Monday, 08 April 2019 around 8:30pm, it is alleged that three men, one armed with a firearm and others with knives kicked open a kitchen door of a house in Ngcayichibi Street, KwaNobuhle. Two of the three armed men were wearing balaclavas. Four house occupants, including a married couple rushed to the bedroom so as to getaway and were holding the door closed when one of the suspects shot through the door leading to a bullet striking the woman in the abdomen area.
The suspects then entered the bedroom and one suspect held the occupants at gunpoint, while others stole various items such as cash, three cell phones. The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles. The injured woman was rushed to hospital, where she is in a stable condition.
Two hours later, police received information of one of the vehicles used in the robbery that it was parked outside at the tavern in Mabandla Road. At the scene, police spotted the vehicle, a red Volkswagen Polo with Mpumalanga registration number plates. Two of the suspects were arrested and two balaclavas were also found inside the vehicle. Police also seized two cellphones and confiscated the vehicle. The third suspect and a getaway vehicle is still at large.
Uitenhage acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll praised members for their swift response and said, “I encourage our community to continue supplying police with information about anyone who is involved in crime, especially those crimes where firearms are used”
