PORT ELIZABETH - GUNMAN FLEES HELENVALE GUN BATTLE AND RUNS RIGHT INTO POLICE WHO IMMEDIATELY ARREST HIM

The quick response of the SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team members resulted in the immediate arrest of an 18-year-old teenager and the confiscation of a 6.35 Browning firearm.

At about 09:30 this morning, the patrolling members heard gunshots been fired in the vicinity of Reginald Road in Helenvale and immediately proceeded in that direction. The suspect was running towards them and when he realised that it was the police, he dropped the firearm. He was arrested and the firearm was recovered. Detectives are busy ascertaining ownership of the weapon.

The suspect was detained on a charge of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in court soon.
