EASTERN CAPE - MAN ARRESTED AFTER GETTING CAUGHT WITH 57 BAGS OF DAGGA WORTH OVER R12 MILLION

Eastern Cape police arrested a 32-year-old man and seized dagga with a street value of more than R12m over the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse, said the driver of a mini-bus was arrested on Sunday on the R-56 between Dordrecht and Molteno, following a tip-off.

She said members from Aliwal North and Queenstown's crime intelligence, K9 and operational command, carried out the operation.

"A white Toyota Quantum with a trailer was stopped and searched where 57 bags of dagga with a weight of 512.12 kg and an estimated street value of R12.8m was confiscated," Roelofse said.

She said the driver was arrested for dealing in dagga and was due to appear in court on Monday.

Roelose said the dagga, also known as 'skunk' because of "its high value" was allegedly loaded in Lusikisiki en route for the Western Cape.
