Uitenhage police said there had been an increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts and are now urging the community to take extra precautions.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said that the thefts spiked in the past week.
She said it was critical that people take precautions to avoid becoming victims.
“Owners are advised to park their vehicles inside garages and to install additional security measures in their vehicles,” Swart said.
Police said thieves are focussing mainly on older models of Toyota’s (Tazz and Corolla), VW’s and even some bakkies.
The public has been asked to report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station.
