Police have confirmed that the man who was shot and wounded outside Volkswagen South Africa's plant on Friday night, was out on bail on a charge of attempted murder.Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the 40-year-old was charged in connection with attempted murder in May this year which is being investigated by Kamesh police.
She says he cannot be identified as yet.
Naidu reported over the weekend that the victim was walking to the pedestrian gate of the VWSA plant at around 10 pm on Friday night when shots were fired at him.
He was hit several times and is currently in hospital.
No arrests have yet been made.
