EASTERN CAPE - MAN GETS LIFE SENTENCE FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AND MURDER OF ELDERLY WOMAN

A Mooiplaas man, Malibongwe Duba who attempted to rape and murdered a 67-year-old granny was sentenced to life for murder and 10 years imprisonment for attempted rape in the Makhanda High Court today.

It is alleged that Duba (27) attempted to rape and stabbed the 67-year-old woman, known to him from the same neighbourhood, to death on Saturday evening, 28 April 2018 at Sotho location, Mooiplaas whilst she was on her way home.

A case of murder and attempted rape was opened at Mooiplaas police station. The investigating officer Warrant Officer Mnyazi took over the investigation.

Considering the fact that it was very difficult to provide evidence against the accused in court but the veteran investigator, Warrant Officer managed to collect the overwhelming evidence that actually assisted the Judge to sentence the accused, Malibongwe Duba to life imprisonment for murder and 10 years improvement for attempted rape.
