PORT ELIZABETH - MURDER CASE OPENED AGAINST BETHELSDORP MAN WHO FOUGHT OFF 2 ARMED BURGLARS IN HIS HOME, KILLING 1

A case of murder is opened against a 55-year-old Bethesldorp man after he confronted two alleged housebreakers who broke down his door and windows to gain entry into his Greenfields home.

It is alleged that on Friday, 11 October 2019 at about 21:00, the man was at home with his wife and they were cooking when they heard a loud pounding on the door. Two males were outside demanding to enter. When entry was denied, they started to break the windows and the door.

The two suspects entered the house and a fight started between the owner and the suspects who were armed with a knife and a panga. It is further alleged that the suspects were attempting to stab the owner who in turn armed himself with a knife to defend his wife and himself. One suspect, aged 19 years old, was fatally wounded in his chest while the other ran away. The victim was identified as Luthando Ndude who is a neighbour.

The other suspect is known but not yet arrested.

Bethelsdorp detectives are investigating a case of murder (against the owner) and housebreaking (against the suspects). The owner of the house is not arrested and once investigations are complete, the case will be sent to the Directorate for Public Prosecution for a decision.
