PORT ELIZABETH - NELSON MANDELA BAY MUNICIPALITY ON THE VERGE OF A TAKEOVER BY PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
The Eastern Cape Executive Council has resolved to issue a notice of invoking section 139 (1) (A) of the Constitution to the Nelson Mandela Bay on its failure to meet its obligation.
Invoking this section might see the provincial government taking over some administration functions of the municipality or dissolving council
The Provincial Cooperative Governance has given the municipality seven days to give reasons why the provincial government should not take over.
Failure to convene council meetings, appoint Executive Directors and Chief Financial Officer are some of the reasons cited for invoking section 139 (1) (A).
