PORT ELIZABETH - EC HEALTH DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES RENOVATED MENTAL HEALTH UNIT AT PE PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL
The Eastern Cape Department of Health has launched a newly renovated mental health unit at the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital.The need for mental health clinics in the province is dire.There are 10 functional mental health facilities in the province with only two thousands beds available. This newly renovated unit will provide an extra forty beds.
According to the World Health Organization someone loses their life to suicide, somewhere in the world every 40 seconds.
Statistics reveal that one in four adults and one child in ten are likely to be diagnosed with mental health issues.
