PORT ELIZABETH - SEARCH & RESCUE LAUNCHED FOR TEEN WHO WENT MISSING IN THE SWARTKOPS RIVER

A massive search operation was conducted on Thursday to find a 17-year-old Port Elizabeth boy who went missing in the Swartkops River.

NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said two other male teenagers, made it safely out of the water.

He said NSRI Port Elizabeth was activated just after 10 am on Thursday following reports of a drowning in progress at Swartkops River Mouth.

He said they dispatched two sea rescue craft and a rescue vehicle and were joined by the SAPS, Eastern Cape Health Department EMS, NMB Fire and Rescue Services, Bluewater Bay Lifeguards, Coastal Rescue and the City's beach office in the search for the missing youth.

"Despite an extensive sea, air and shoreline search, no sign of the teenager has been found," he said.

Lambinon said police have taken over in an ongoing search operation.
