EASTERN CAPE - 2 STOCK THIEVES CAUGHT AFTER 8 SHEEP ARE STOLEN


Two Alice stock theft male suspects briefly appeared at Seymour Magistrate's Court today after the alleged theft of eight (8) sheep at Avondale farm at Seymour between 15 and 16 January 2020 during the night.

During an investigation it was established that six (6) sheep were stolen on that night, two were stolen and slaughtered by a shepherd who worked at the same farm.

Alice Stock Theft Unit members followed up on information received resulting in the recovery of the remains of five (5) sheep.

Two male suspects, Siyabonga Mbalo, 29 and Mpho Lepolisa 27 appeared at Seymour Magistrate's court today, 23 January 2020 and were remanded in custody. The duo will appear again in the same court on 28 January 2020 for a formal bail hearing.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Ntshinga commended the progress and encouraged the detectives saying, "Handle all evidence with caution and treat meticulously to ensure successful prosecution and sentence. Two suspects convicted is one good step in the eradication of abhorred illicit trade of stock theft."
