EASTERN CAPE - THIEVES CAUGHT TRYING TO SMUGGLE 16 TOWER BATTERIES WORTH R400 000 TO JOHANNESBURG

A 36-year-old suspect and his 34-year-old counterpart were arrested by Tsolo Vispol members after they were found in possession of sixteen Tower Batteries on the N2 road near Tshisane locality yesterday, 17 January 2020 at about 20:00.

Police received an information about the suspects that were transporting these batteries from Mthatha to Johannesburg. A stop and search was conducted and the batteries with the estimated value of R400 000 were found in a bus that cannot be mentioned to protect its company's name. The suspects will be profiled and linked with other cases. During their arrest they attempted to bribe police with thousands of rands. They will be caused to appear before Tsolo Magistrate Court on Monday the 20th facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and bribe.

Lastly, three (03) homemade shotguns with no ammunition and a spear were seized during an intelligence driven operation that was conducted by Public Order Policing and K9 members at Mthambalala A/A in Lusikisiki last night. The operation was conducted for raiding of dangerous weapons in an effort to curb murders and/or attempted murders. No arrest effected as the suspect escaped an arrest.

"Let's profile and link these suspects with other cases relating to non-ferrous and we must oppose bail and make it a point that they get a harsh sentence." Said the District Commissioner, Major General David Kanuka.
