PORT ELIZABETH - 6 SUSPECTS ROB ALGOA PARK FILLING STATION OF AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY


A 40- year old alleged robbery suspect was arrested soon after a robbery at a Petrol filling station in Algoa Park this morning.

It is alleged that today, 20 January 2020 at approximately 04:20 the complainant, a petrol pump attendant was outside when a silver Corsa bakkie with no registration plates parked at the garage. Six suspects got out of the vehicle and one suspect approached the attendant while the other suspects went inside the shop. The attendant was pointed with a firearm and escorted into the shop where he was instructed to lay down with the other two cashiers behind the counter. The suspects managed to open the safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash and other items. The suspects fled with a Corsa bakkie in the direction of Uitenhage Road.

Algoa Park police responded to the complaint of robbery, they noticed the suspects fleeing and a chase ensued. One suspect jumped off the vehicle and was arrested. Members continued pursuing the suspects in the bakkie. The suspects started shooting at the police who retaliated by firing back. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran off in different directions.

The arrested suspect is detained on charges of business robbery and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court soon.
