SOUTH AFRICA - CONTROVERSIAL AARTO TO BE SIGNED INTO LAW IN JUNE THIS YEAR

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says the controversial Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Bill has been signed into law.

It's a demerit system that will fundamentally change driving in South Africa.

“We are going to be intolerant to drink and driving. It's the biggest contributor. We are going beyond just saying some percentages, it must be zero percentage...” he said.
Mbalula said drivers who refused to obey will face the full might of the law.

“We take points, we take away your drivers licence. President [Cyril Ramaphosa] have signed that into law. This year is the year of implementation. We going hard on drink and driving,”
He added that they will also be impounding unroadworthy vehicles.
