The Competition Commission says it will keep a close eye on the price of uniforms.
This as pupils return to school.
The commission has asked parents to sound the alarm if they feel schools are not complying with the education department’s uniform guidelines.
School uniforms should be as generic as possible so that they are accessible from as many suppliers as possible.
The guidelines also stipulate that exclusive items like badges should be limited.
Schools are also required to follow a competitive bidding process when appointing suppliers.
