A 37-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s court today, 12 February 2020 for his alleged involvement in a cash in transit robbery at Sutherland, outside Mthatha two weeks ago.
The suspect was arrested by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team on Monday for his alleged role in the robbery after two security guards were attacked at petrol station at Sutherlands by three unknown gunmen and subsequently fled with the cash in a white double cab bakkie.
Upon receiving the docket, members of the Hawks conducted an intensive investigation which led them to a house in Mandela Park where the suspect was reported to be hiding. The suspect was found and arrested and the white double cab bakkie suspected to have been during the commission of the crime was also seized. Further investigations revealed that the vehicle was stolen in Mount Frere in December 2019.
