PORT ELIZABETH - BETHELSDORP POLICE BAFFLED AFTER DOG FOUND EATING HUMAN SKULL


Detectives at SAPS Bethelsdorp is seeking the community’s assistance in trying to trace the identity of a skeleton that was found in bushes on 23 December 2019.

According to police information, at about 18:45 a shepherd was tending cows in the bushes between Chatty 11 and houses close by when he noticed a stray dog eating something. On closer examination, he discovered that the dog was eating a skull. He immediately contacted police who found some bones scattered in the nearby vicinity. Police suspect that the person was burnt as some bones were lying in a shallow ditch with the grass around it, burned. The bones are suspected to be about a month old. A case of murder was opened and is under investigation.

Race, age or sex cannot be determined due to its skeletal nature. The bones were sent to forensics for DNA analysis.

The body of a woman found in a lake on 23 January 2020 has also not yet been identified. She is believed to be between the ages of 14-20 years old. There is a tattoo on her lower right leg with a name which is either Shelain or Helain (not too clear). She was wearing a pink gown.  A murder case was also opened.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in identifying the woman or may suspect of a person that is missing for over a month is asked to contact D/Sgt Tandiswa Nobebe on 067 403 1910  or SAPS  Bethelsdorp on 041 404 3005 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
