PORT ELIZABETH - EXCELLENT POLICE WORK LEADS TO THE ARREST OF 2 MURDERERS WITHIN 48 HOURS

Police of Kwazakele joined by various other role-players of the Nelson Mandela Metro solved a murder within 48 hours of finding the victims vehicle.

On 3 February 2020 at about 14:00 Bongani Hina, 34-years-old, left his home in Zwide with his grey Mitshibishi Colt bakkie to go to NU29, Motherwell. After he never returned home, his concerned relatives reported him missing to police.

On Thursday 6 February his vehicle was found abandoned in bushes behind Zwide Primary School. The 72 hour investigation plan was immediately activated and top investigation officers were roped in to investigate a possible murder, as traces of blood was found on the back seat of the vehicle after the forensic analysis by the SAPS Provincial CSI was conducted.

In the meantime the vehicle registration number was run and tested against security cameras across the Metro. One of the security cameras produced a photograph taken on 3 February in Walmer which clearly revealed two persons in the vehicle.

On Friday 7 February the two persons on the photo were recognised and identified by a family member of the victim and shortly after the two males were arrested and taken for questioning at Kwazakele SAPS station.

The two admitted to killing Mr Hina and lead police to the bushes close to Coega Industrial area on the R334 road, where the body of Mr Hina was pointed out where they left him.

The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has applauded the speedy investigation and arrests of the two suspects and said "The level of co-operation between the police and the Metro Search and Rescue teams as well as the security system camera network across the bay has resulted in a very speedy success in identifying and solving this murder. Perpetrators of the law needs to be warned that policing in the Metro has stepped up in the right direction and that they will face the full force of the law in the city."

The two suspects remains in custody and will face murder charges before the Motherwell Magistrates Court on Monday 9 February.
