PORT ELIZABETH - GELVANDALE MURDER SUSPECT APPREHENDED IN CRADOCK


On February 2020, a wanted suspect was circulated via all media (print and social). The 22-year-old suspect is wanted for a murder and attempted murder case which took place on 09 January 2020 in Martin Street in Gelvandale in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

Two of his alleged co-accused’s are already in custody. On 06 February 2020, W/O Gregory Pitt of Cradock Commercial Crime Task Team recognised the wanted suspect from a newspaper article. The investigating officer was contacted and the information confirmed. D/W/O Pitt immediately mobilised the Cradock Cluster Operational Command Centre and Craddock K9 Unit. The team then penetrated a house Michausdal in Cradock and found the wanted suspect, Azaar Claasen. The warrant for his arreste was executed and he was arrested and detained on a charge of murder and attempted murder.

He is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court soon.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile commended D/W/O Pitt for his insight. “This is a warning to criminals who think that they can escape arrest for their criminal deeds. We have experienced, committed and dedicated police officers throughout the country and it is only a matter of time before their time is up and their freedom short lived. We thank our partners in the media for assisting us in tracing our wanted criminals,” added Maj Gen Patekile.
