CORONAVIRUS UPDATE - 7 APRIL 2020 - SA NOW HAS 1749 CONFIRMED CASES AND 13 DEATHS


Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Tuesday the department has recorded another death in Parklands, KwaZulu-Natal bringing the death toll to 13.



The man had previously reported prostate cancer as an underlying condition.

The department conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now 1,749.

The minister expressed concern about the rise of infections at the St Augustine's Hospital in Durban.

In total, 66 people at the hospital have tested positive over the past few days.

About 48 of them are staff.

The KZN Department of Health is engaging the hospital with a view to closing parts of the hospital down.

"We hope the fumigation process will start soon there. We have also assigned specialists there.

"We must always be on the lookout. The infection can seep in from any institution. We must now trace all the contacts. It is a matter of serious concern and we are dealing with it," the minister said.
