CORONAVIRUS UPDATE - SOUTH AFRICA - 14 MAY 2020 - EASTERN CAPE CONFIRMED CASES INCREASE TO 1569 WHILE SA ZOOMS UP TO 12739

As of today the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases are 12739, the total number of deaths is 238 and recoveries are 5676

We have managed to flatten the curve to some extent due to the lockdown. Flattening the curve is an ongoing process and we must continue to battle this

We have started building up our supply of PPEs and we are doing well. We have stock for 6-8 weeks and after that we will order more. We are discussing the production of resources locallay.

The crisis now is Covid19, but we have to keep a balance with those who have other infections. We would like to continue to maintain a high quality healthcare system while battling Covid-19

Only 10% of our PPEs are manufactured locally and that needs to change. This must go up to 90%.

We are counting on the goodwill of the people, on their cooperation and support. Of all South Africans understanding that this is a battle we need to fight and win together.
