PORT ELIZABETH - ROWALLAN PARK WOMAN, 83, DIES AFTER ROBBER SLAMS HER HEAD INTO WALL

An unknown suspect who broke into a house in Port Elizabeth on Saturday is wanted for murder after the elderly home-owner succumbed to her injuries.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the incident happened in Maasdorp Street in Rowallan Park just before 11 am where the suspect gained entry through an unlocked back door.

He confronted the 83-year-old Martha Snyman in the passage where an altercation occurred.

Snyman's head was pushed against the wall and she collapsed on the floor where she later died.

Colonel Naidu says the suspect then went to the lounge where he confronted the 76-year-old husband, David Snyman.

The robber stole two cellphones and cash before fleeing the scene.

Naidu says Mrs Snyman died on the scene and her husband was treated for minor wounds to his head.

A case of murder and house robbery is under investigation.

Naidu says the suspect had a dark complexion with an afro hairstyle and was wearing a dark green pair of pants.

Any person with information on the suspect can contact Detective/Constable Ronald Mahleza on 082 442 1384
