PORT ELIZABETH - 2 CAR THIEVES ARRESTED TRYING TO OUTRUN POLICE IN STOLEN HUMEWOOD CAR

Swift follow up on information received by PE Flying Squad members resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Saturday, 22 August 2020.



It is alleged that at about 17:00 on the mentioned date, PE Flying Squad  members received and followed up information of possible stolen vehicle that was about to be sold and that the said vehicle was departing from Motherwell  towards Kwazakele.

 The vehicle, a white VW Polo was spotted on the M17. 

When attempts to stop the vehicle failed, a high speed chased ensued from the M17 into Daku Road and due to the heavy traffic, police succeeded in forcing the vehicle to stop.  

One suspect alighted and ran through a side street but was apprehended.

The VW Polo fitted with false plates was recovered. 

It was reported stolen in Humewood in July 2020. 

Two suspects aged 24 and 27 years old were arrested and detained on charges of possession of stolen vehicle, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of breaking implements, possession of suspected stolen property and reckless and/or negligent driving. 

Police also confiscated 10 rounds of ammunition as well as a lock breaking tool.

They are expected to appear in court soon. 

Detectives will be probing the possible links to other crime
