A Port Elizabeth man has been jailed for an effective 25 years for raping his daughter who was 13 at the time.
The 39-year-old father from Kwazakhele was sentenced in the High Court on Wednesday.
Police said he raped his daughter on three separate occasions in August 2018, causing her to fall pregnant.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the girl underwent an abortion.
However, in a further tragic twist, the young girl died in a shack fire in December 2019 before her father's trial began.
He was sentenced to 25 years on each of the three counts of rape but the court ordered that these run concurrently
