PORT ELIZABETH - NOTORIOUS HITMAN AND GANG MEMBER GUNNED DOWN BY POLICE IN NEW BRIGHTON

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is probing the death of a man following a skirmish with Port Elizabeth police.

IPID national spokesperson, Ndileka Cola says notorious PE gangster and hitman, Thabo Gadaffi Madikane apparently drove off when the police tried to pull him over while they were doing patrol work in New Brighton on Sunday.

He allegedly lost control of the vehicle during a high-speed chase and it came to a stop against a fence.

Cola says Madikane got out of the vehicle and fired shots at the police, before running away.

A police officer allegedly returned fire and chased the suspect, who continued to run.

Madikane entered a yard, fell to the ground and was declared dead at the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted this week, and ballistic tests will be done on the police member's firearm.
