PORT ELIZABETH - MOHAIR VALUED AT R4 MILLION FOUND IN SOWETO-ON-SEA AFTER TRUCK HIJACKING

The K9 unit in Port Elizabeth recovered a hijacked truck and 90 bales of mohair valued at about R4 million on Monday,

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the horse and trailer Mercedez Benz truck, destined for Uitenhage, left the depot in Burman Rd in Deal party on Monday morning and the owner soon realised that the tracking activation device was starting to scramble.

She says the owner knew something was amiss.

His truck was found at about 10 am, abandoned in Old Uitenhage Road in Kleinskool.

Colonel Naidu says as the owner was making his way to the police station to report the matter he spotted the bales of mohair lying in an open field in Soweto-on-Sea.

Police were summoned to the scene where all the mohair was recovered.

All the wool was handed back to the owner and no arrests have been made.
