PORT ELIZABETH - THIEF ATTMEPTS TO ROB WOMAN IN GOVAN MBEKI AVE AND IS QUICKLY APPREHENDED BY POLICE

 Mount Road Crime Prevention arrested a 30-year-old suspect after he attempted to rob a person of her cell phone.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 21 October 2020 at approximately 13:00, while the 56-year-old complainant was in her car in Govan Mbeki Ave, North End, an unknown man opened her passenger door and attempted to grab her cell phone. 

The woman held onto her cell phone and screamed for help. 

Two men from the community rushed to her assistance. 

The suspect let go of the cell phone and ran away. Mount Road Crime Prevention Unit members were in the area and chased after the suspect. 

The suspect jumped into a taxi in an attempt to flee. 

He was apprehended and detained for attempted robbery. 

The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court on Friday, 23 October 2020.

The South African Police Service urges the community to be alert at all times and to lock their vehicle doors, once they are inside as criminals are always looking for any opportunity to commit crime.
