EASTERN CAPE - ELDERLY MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING AND KILLING HIS 60 YEAR OLD WIFE

A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged for fatal shooting of his wife at Mgqumo locality, Sitebe A/A, Bityi on 2 November 2020 at about 09:00.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting incident form part of the investigation and police will not speculate on the motive.

It is alleged that after shooting his 60-year-old wife, the suspect called the police and reported the matter. The woman was rushed to hospital where she was declared dead.

The suspect was arrested and his unlicensed 7.65 9mm pistol was seized.

The suspect appeared before Bityi Periodical Court today facing a charge of murder.

"SAPS strongly condemns the killing of women by the people who are supposed to be protect them. Families are urge to seek assistance to resolve any problems problems amicably”, said Acting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile.

In another unrelated incident, a 61-year old woman was found murdered at Mfana locality, Mpame village, Elliotdale.

It is alleged that she was last seen on 31 October 2020 at about 20:00 at the same locality.

Her lifeless body was discovered by a passer by in the early hours of 01 November 2020 when he saw blood drops and decided to follow the direction of the blood drops. He found the deceased in a bushy area with multiple stab wounds on her upper body.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Elliotdale detectives have opened a murder docket and are working around the clock to bring the perpetrator/s to book.
