PORT ELIZABETH - SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR LEADS TO THE ARREST OF SUSPECT WITH ILLEGAL FIREARM IN KORSTEN

The festive season has kicked off and police in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro will be focussing on high visibility at crime hotspot areas as well as tightening the grip on criminals and criminality in order to ensure the safety of law abiding citizens




On Friday, 4/12 at about 11:15, observant  SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team members were  busy in Cottrell Street in Korsten when they spotted a grey Renault Sandero with 3  males standing outside the vehicle and the driver seated behind the steering.

When the driver noticed the police members, he alighted from vehicle, went and fiddled with bonnet of the car. 

When he started to walk away from the vehicle, he was followed by the members. 

He was stopped in Durban Road and searched.  

A 9mm pistol with ammunition was found in his possession. 

The serial number was filed off.

The 26-year-old male was detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He will appear in the Gelvandale magistrates’ court on Monday, 7 December 2020.
