PORT ELIZABETH - SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR LEADS TO DISCOVERY OF STOLEN 9MM PISTOL IN GAIL ROAD BUST

Two suspects were arrested in separate incidents and two firearms recovered in Gelvandale and Missionvale respectively.


It is alleged that on Friday, 11 December 2020 at about 10:25, SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team members were in Gail Road when they noticed a vehicle pass them and the passenger appeared nervous and kept looking back. 

The members made a U-turn and stopped the vehicle. On searching the 24-year-old male, they found a 9mm pistol in his possession. 

The firearm is reported stolen in Humewood in October 2020. 

He is detained on charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.  

In another incident, at about 10:45 this morning, Anti-Gang Unit members were patrolling in Tromp Street in Missionavale when they stopped a male carrying a bag. 

The person was searched and a 7.65 firearm and ammunition was found inside the bag. Ownership of the firearm is still to be determined. 

The 40-year-old suspect is detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both suspects will appear in their respective courts in Gelvandale and New Brighton on Monday, 14 December 2020.
