KARIEGA - FAMILY TIED UP AFTER GUNMEN STORM LEISCHING STREET HOME

It is alleged that at about 21:00, two males (one armed) entered a house in Leisching Street in Kariega and pointed the owner with a firearm. 

The complainant, aged 42 was taken to the room and instructed to open the safe. Seven (7) firearms (rifle, shotgun, pistol and four pellet guns), 10 cellphones and some cash were taken. 

The complainant, his wife and their three children were tied up and the suspects fled in the complainant’s Ford Ranger bakkie.

Within minutes after the robbery, the vehicle was found abandoned by K9 Unit members at the corners of 12th and Grootboom Avenue in Greenfields in Kamesh. 

All the stolen firearms were recovered behind a shack close to the abandoned vehicle.

SAPS Uitenhage detectives are searching for the suspects. Although one suspect’s face was covered, he is big in stature while the other suspect was identified with having a gold tooth and a scar on his cheek. Acting District Commissioner, Brig Thandiswa Kupiso commended the K9 Unit for their swift reaction in recovering the firearms. ’The recovery of these firearms prevented them from getting into the hands of criminals which could have resulted in the commission of serious and violent crimes. We appeal to the communities to work with us and not to protect these criminals by reporting their whereabouts. These criminals are dangerous and will not hesitate to harm anyone therefore they must be arrested and removed from society,’ added Brig Kupiso.
