SAPS Kamesh police officials are closely monitoring compliance by their citizens and are not hesitating to reprimand offenders who defy the regulations.
In the last two days, 44 people were arrested and charged for non-compliance of the Disaster Management Act.
Most of the transgressions were for not wearing masks and failure to confine oneself to his/her place of residence during curfew.
During the early hours of this morning, SAPS Kamesh members, performing special operational duties, arrested a 26-year-old suspect in Rosedale and confiscated a 9mm pistol.
It is alleged that at about 03:30, two males were spotted walking in Tarentaal Street. When they spotted the police vehicle, they started running. One suspect was arrested and upon searching him, a 9mm Taurus pistol and three rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as in terms of the DMA – failure to confine himself to his home during curfew. He will appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 July 2021.
