Swift response by SAPS Gelvandale Crime Prevention members on information of an alleged gang member in possession of firearm, resulted in his arrest and the confiscation of the illegal weapon.
It is alleged that on Wednesday afternoon, 25 August 2021 at about 15:00, members received information that alleged gang members were walking in Kempdrick Street with a firearm in their possession.
While patrolling, they noticed two males sitting under a tree in a park in Oribi Street.
When they approached the males, they started running.
Both were apprehended and on searching them, one male, aged 28 years, was found in possession of firearm and 16 rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ownership of the firearm is yet to be established.
The suspect was also detained on another case of pointing of a firearm which took place on 21 August 2021 in Zimdahl Street.
It is alleged that at about 06:50, the complainant (45) emerged from her house and saw the suspect on his skateboard.
As she was reprimanding him, he pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her.
The suspect is known to the complainant.
Igshaan Mallick appeared in the Gelvandale magistrate court on Thursday, 26 August 2021 on both cases and is remanded in custody until 01 September 2021 for a formal bail application.
