NELSON MANDELA BAY - STATION COMMANDER CATCHES 5 SUSPECTS WITH SUSPECTED STOLEN PIG CARCASSES

At about 14:00 yesterday afternoon, while patrolling in Old Grahamstown Road, Swartkops Station Commander, Lt Col John Perils saw a truck and a Nissan Qashqai stationary next to a supermarket.

The occupants of both vehicles were standing outside. As Lt Col Perils approached them, they got into their vehicles and drove off.

Lt Col Perils who was alone at the time, pulled over the Nissan Qashqai and while interviewing the driver, he noticed two pig carcasses at the back of the vehicle.

The driver admitted that he bought the pigs from the truck driver who was now driving towards them.

Lt Col Perils stopped the truck and enquired from driver about the alleged sale. He also could not produce any receipts.

The carcasses were sold for R4000-00.

The truck driver and his two occupants were detained on a charge of theft while the Qashqai driver and his occupant were detained for possession of suspected stolen property.

All five suspects aged between 29-49 years old are expected to appear in the Motherwell magistrate court on Wednesday, 25 August 2021.

Acting NMB District Commissioner, Brig Thandiswa Kupiso commended Lt Col Perils for his brave and bold action. ‘Police visibility is proven to be very effective and the actions taken by our operational members including senior management  portrays their dedication and commitment to their work as they take a proactive approach in fighting crime. I want to warn the community to refrain from buying stolen property because this perpetuates criminality. Lt Col Perils executed his responsibilities to serve and protect his community in an exemplary manner.’
