EASTERN CAPE - SUSPECT ON BICYCLE DURING CURFEW CAUGHT WITH 2 FIREARMS

On Friday, 10 September 2021 just after midnight, it is alleged that a police vehicle monitoring curfew violations and conducting proactive policing were patrolling in Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay, when they noticed a man on a bicycle at the corners of Jeff Radebe and Griffiths Mxenge Streets and stopped him.

The man could not account for being on the street during curfew, and after searching him, two revolvers and a 9mm pistol with a total of 22 live rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the firearms was stolen during a housebreaking and theft incident in Jeffreys Bay 14 years ago (2007).

The other two firearms had their serial numbers filed off.  All three confiscated firearms will be sent to a ballistics for analysis. The suspect was detained on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of prohibited firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and contravening the Disaster Management Act – failure to confine himself to his residence.
