GQEBERHA - RUSSELL ROAD COLLISION LEADS TO SUSPECT'S ARREST IN CAR STOLEN AT MOTHERWELL FILLING STATION

SAPS Humewood arrested a suspect (36) and recovered a stolen vehicle early this morning in Central.

It is alleged that at approximately 06:15 this morning, the owner of a green polo classic was outside his vehicle at a filling station in Motherwell NU4B, talking to a petrol attendant, when a suspect jumped into his vehicle and drove off. 

The complainant reported the theft of motor vehicle and the registration number was circulated via police channels.

At approximately 07:00, whilst SAPS Humewood members were busy with patrols in Campbell Street in Richmond Hill, they spotted the vehicle. 

The members pursued the vehicle and as they attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver sped off crossing a pavement into Russel Road, Central towards the M4 where it collided with a white Mercedes Benz. 

The driver lost control of the vehicle and also collided with a silver Caravel Minibus. 

The suspect was arrested and the VW Polo was recovered and impounded.

The suspect is detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and reckless or negligent driving and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court soon.
