GQEBERHA - LICENSED TAVERN OWNERS IN THE METRO JOIN IN ON VACCINATION DRIVE

Licensed tavern owners at Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape have rolled up their sleeves to assist government to combat the spread of COVID-19.

They have embarked on a vaccination drive to help patrons vaccinate at their premises.

The Eastern Cape has vaccinated more than one million people against COVID-19 thus far.

The aim is to vaccinate two million people by the end of this year, in a bid to reach its 4.5 million target by the end of April next year.

Locals enjoyed the initiative.

“We welcome this vaccination drive and people are scared of the jab, so this is wonderful for us as residents.”

“We have to prevent the spread of the virus so to do it at a tavern is good. The tavern is a super spreader, if you do it at a tavern, you vaccinate a lot of people at the same time.”

Tavern owner Thozamile Fumbeza believes it is also their obligation to work with government to combat the spread of COVID-19.

“I feel I have a responsibility as a tavern owner. I am dealing with people and there is a call from government that says everyone needs to be vaccinated after we were hit by lockdowns as taverns.”

This initiative comes amid concerns that the vaccination rate in the province is not proceeding as well as expected.
