GQEBERHA - TIP-OFF LEADS TO THE DISCOVERY OF DAGGA WORTH R200 000 IN SUMMERSTRAND FLATS

The Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso commended the community for anonymously reporting a suspicious package in the basement of their flats in Windermere Road in Summerstrand today.


It is alleged that at about 11:30, two members from SAPS Humewood immediately reacted to the information received and on arriving at the block of flats as described in the ‘tip-off,’ they found the package in the parking lot in the basement. 

An unknown male was found in possession of the package. On inspecting the parcel, they discovered that it was dagga. 

The suspect who resides in the same complex was taken to his flat where the officers conducted a search. 

A total of 150kg’s of compressed dagga was recovered. 

The estimated street value of the cannabis is R200 000.

The suspect, believed to be in his 30’s, was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs. 

He is expected to appear in court soon on the respective charge.

Brigadier Kupiso also commended the police officers for their speedy response to the information received. ‘Our concerted efforts of building partnerships and working together with communities in the fight against crime will ensure that criminality is not given a chance to flourish within our communities. The scourge of drugs continue to plague our communities, therefore as law enforcement we will continue in our efforts to decisively deal with this devastating scourge,’ added Brigadier Kupiso.
