A fault occurred at the Summerstrand Major Substation, causing damage to the electrical supply's critical apparatus and resulting in the loss of power to Summerstrand and the surrounding areas.
A contractor has been hired to clean the damaged equipment, and repair work has begun.
If everything goes as planned, we expect to be able to restore supply late this afternoon, Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Supply has been restored to a section of Walmer to consumers fed from the following substations: Heugh Road, Weetwood Road Local, 3rd Avenue Mini, Heugh Road Mini, Villiers Road, 2nd Avenue, Heugh Road No. 2, 5th Avenue Mini, 7/11 Heugh Road Mini, Bakewell and the community.
Summerstrand, parts of Humewood, Forest Hill, Walmer and South End remain affected.
At the Greenbushes Industrial Major Substation, a fault occurred, knocking out the remaining transformer and cutting off power to the entire substation.
Sections of Greenbushes, St. Albans, Tembani and Seaview Pumps have been restored to service, except for consumers served by the Greenbushes Industrial Substation. The HV Substation - Transformer T2 is currently undergoing repairs.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available; however, efforts to restore power to these affected areas are underway.
