In the recent incident which shocked the people of the Eastern Cape, approximately more than fifty (50) homesteads and ninety seven (97) houses were burnt down by unknown suspects in Bhuje Locality.

The arrested soldier, 57,  who is believed to be coming from one of the local villages in Majola area, is facing charges relating to Murder, Arson and Attempted Murder and is expected to appear in Port St Johns Magistrate Court on Thursday the 26th January 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner has expressed gratitude to the community for supporting the work of the police during the ongoing investigations.

Police investigation continues to establish the motive for the killings.

“This is just the beginning of the great work of the investigating team.

My concern is the root cause of these faction fights, so that we can put a stop to these unwarranted killings and destruction of property sooner than later.

The arrested suspect must point us to more culprits, because we believe that he cannot execute this ugly work alone in those villages.” Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene said.

Anyone with information that can lead to more arrests in Majola villages, must please make contact with Port St Johns police station or call the crime stop number 08 600 10 111.

Investigation continues.
