The stretch of road is still doing its job, 4 years since it was laid.

About one and half tonnes of plastic, the equivalent of 1,8 million single-use bags, were used in just 1km of road.

Not far from the plastic-infused road, is another traditional tar road, built by the same contractor in the same year.The difference between the two is undeniable.

The Kouga municipality says it has a huge backlog of roads that still need to be fixed. 

It wants a buy-in from the national government to spread the use of the technology.
