Members of Tactical Response Team, deployed in the Amathole District, were busy with their routine operations at Dutywa when they received information about a person in possession of an unlicensed firearm at Ngcingwane Location.
The information was immediately operationalised and the suspect was swiftly apprehended.
The suspect was found and searched.
An unlicensed firearm and a magazine with two rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
The serial number was filed off.
A small amount of dagga was also seized.
The suspect was detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of dagga.
The suspect is due to appear at Idutywa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 14 April 2023.
The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Zinakile Freddie commended the community for the information and encouraged them to report criminal activities either voluntarily or anonymously to SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
